Toybank at Lampost
On May 4, 2015 Toybank opened its 120th
center in Mumbai reaching out to 75 new kids aging from 6 years to 13 years old
and giving them their right to play! The two new centers were
opened in association with Lamp Post, a project run by Deloitte. Lamp Post is a
project founded by Mr. Sanjay Pasrija of Deloitte. Lamp Post helps educate
underprivileged children who carryout odd jobs in Mumbai to earn whatever
little money they can which will help them meet thier ends.
These students after a long days work would find time and sit to study under
lamp post as their only source of light. Toybank conducted a training session for thier project
coordinator and a toy library of around 31 toys was started. It was great to see the
enthusiasm shown by the staff at Deloitte.
The toys give the students a much-needed break from
their studies. Play sessions held once a week helps the students develop
thinking skills and boosts their moral and self-esteem. The progress of the
students will be monitored every week and progress reports will be made for all
the students. The play sessions also help the students focus on their studies.
As they say, ‘All work and no play make jack a dull boy.’ With the help of these
new toy libraries the students will be brighter, more focused, but most
importantly, all the children will be happier!
